Common Vehicle, Boat & Title Situations We Help With
What to Have Ready for a Vehicle or Boat Title Appointment
Requirements can vary by document, by agency, and by situation. Louisiana OMV handles most motor vehicle title matters, while LDWF handles many boat and motor title matters.

Many titled movables handled through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles — such as trailers, mobile homes or manufactured homes, RVs, campers, ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, and similar units — often follow procedures similar to a vehicle title transfer. Some requirements, documents, and signing situations may vary depending on the type of property and the facts of the transaction.

OMV vs. LDWF: Which Agency Handles the Transfer?
Motor vehicles, many trailers, and road-title transactions are usually handled through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV).
Boats, most boat motors, and certain vessel title or registration matters are usually handled through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).
Because requirements can change depending on the type of property and the facts of the case, clients should verify final filing requirements before submitting documents.
